Ascendigo offers rewarding and challenging summer camps with positive, autism-friendly supports so your child can succeed and have fun. The Ascendigo team has the specialized training to work with all levels of ability, behaviors and functioning. We offer 9 weeks of camp, with residential and day options, in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Sports include:
Alpine Sports: This program involves hiking, a weekend hut trip at 11,000 ft, and indoor and outdoor rock climbing. Campers will learn life long skills of independence, follow through, and critical thinking skills by practicing proper pacing, hydration/nutrition, safety procedures, tying knot techniques, etc. Campers will exhibit skills they may not have ever before!
Lake Sports: During sessions on the boat, participants can choose from a variety of water sports including, wake-boarding, tubing, knee-boarding, water-skiing, wake-surfing, and more. Anxiety often prevents individuals with autism from gaining a variety of experiences from life. We use multiple strategies to push past the anxiety, in an encouraging and positive way. The fun starts at the dock and continues all day!
Ranch Sports: Individuals who choose the Ranch option become true equestrians as they gain skills and knowledge in all realms of horses. Participants get to experience the western division of the sport (including trail rides, rodeo events, and gymkhana games), the English discipline vaulting, and care for horses such as grooming, feeding, and training. Participants leave Ascendigo’s camp eager to continue their horseback riding as they feel a strong sense of self worth and responsibility from caring for and connecting with the horses all week!
River Sports: Our River Program includes whitewater rafts, tandem and solo inflatable kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. Participants develop confidence with techniques from basic flat water and whitewater paddling strokes, to swimming and essential river rescue procedures, understanding whitewater and planning routes through rapids, and the importance of working with others as a team on the river.
